Seven free things to do this February half term in Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket and Needham Market




With the cost-of-living crisis continuing to bite this winter, we've come up with seven free, or nearly free, things to do in Suffolk this February half term.

From free arts and crafts sessions at Stowmarket Library - to a new park to explore in Bury St Edmunds, we've got you covered.

Included is a round-up of supermarkets and cafés offering free breakfasts, and meals for £1, this half term.

Make a monster at Stowmarket Library

On Wednesday, February 15, children will be able to get stuck into a free craft at Stowmarket Library, in Milton Road North.

The session will run between 10am - 12pm and children will get to make a paper monster, booking is not necessary.

Stowmarket Stories Workshop

On Friday, February 17, the library in Stowmarket will also host two special workshops where families can help create a little box of stories about the town.

Free Mexican card workshop at the Fox Yard Studio - Stowmarket

Suffolk based artist Catalina Carvajal will be running a series of free workshops for kids at the Fox Yard Studio in Stowmarket.

The first workshop on February 15 between 2pm - 4pm, will give children the chance to make Mexican cards and play a game at the end - spaces can be booked on the Fox Yard Studio website.

Visit one of Visit England's top free attractions - Needham Lake

According to Mid Suffolk District Council, Needham Lake is consistently voted one of the top most-visited free attractions in the UK.

Parking at the lake is completely free and there is a train station nearby if you don't drive.

Families can enjoy feeding the ducks, walking around the lake and even building a den.

There is also a play area next to the new Duck and Teapot café.

Explore the new play park at Hardwick Heath - Bury St Edmunds

A trip to the park is a must during any half term and there is a new one to try at Hardwick Heath in Bury St Edmunds.

Families living on the Nowton Estate can walk up to the park which has play equipment for all ages.

However if you do need to park at Hardwick Heath car you will need to pay £2 for two hours, giving you plenty of time to explore.

Free hot breakfasts at Asda in Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich

Asda's cafés are offering children a free warm bowl of porridge during February half term, between 8am - 12pm.

No purchase is necessary for children to get their free porridge.

And they will still be selling their £1 main meal of the day for kids - in a move which they hope will help customers manage the cost-of-living crisis.

Free kids meals at Dobbies in Bury St Edmunds and Woodbridge

The Dobbies garden centres in Bury St Edmunds and Woodbridge both have reasonably priced soft play areas that are suitable for younger age groups.

Children can eat free at Dobbies Garden Centre cafés, when an adult purchases a main meal.
