Bury St Edmunds Starlings Toys prepares to wow customers with weekend grand opening

A popular toy shop is preparing to welcome customers to its new premises this weekend – and SuffolkNews has been given an exclusive glimpse inside.

Starlings Toys has moved from Cornhill in Bury St Edmunds to a bigger store at the arc shopping centre and will be greeting customers and giving out goodie bags from 10am on Saturday, November 5.

The new store, previously Starlings Toymaster, features 25 metres of LEGO products, board games, art supplies, dolls and two giant LEGO models of Star Wars character C3P0 and a Marvel superhero at the front of the shop.

Managing director Jon Starling is looking forward to the grand opening.

He said: “It’s been a long project - we first started in March and now, eight months later, we’re finally opening.

“We’re particularly excited for the LEGO store within the store which really brings these amazing products to the fore.

“The LEGO display models will be in the windows and kids will be able to have their photographs taken with those.”

With the new location also comes a rebrand for the business with the shop simply known as ‘Starlings Toys’.

This decision was made in an effort to match the other stores in Norfolk and Lincolnshire.

Mr Starling said: “We are still part of the Toymaster family - but as the brand has changed, we think it’s best to just be Starlings Toys as part of our next stage in the business.”

“It was a real proud moment to put the sign up and see it lit up for the first time on Tuesday night.

He added that this is a proud moment for the business and he is pleased with what the Bury St Edmunds team has achieved in such a short amount of time.

“It’s a total team effort,” he said. “It’s all the work of local tradespeople too for the fit, flooring and signage.
