Sneak peek inside the new Bury St Edmunds Primark, which will open at former Debenhams in arc shopping centre
Shoppers can catch an early glimpse inside what will become the new Primark store in Bury St Edmunds today.
Previously covered windows at the former Debenhams building, in the arc shopping centre, are uncovered, revealing the bare interior ahead of retailer Primark moving in to the ground and first floors.
Today, shoppers can see inside the ground floor and its virtually bare interior, ahead of work to fit it out for the clothing and homewares retailer.
Following the departure of Debenhams, the shop’s escalators have moved and now face the entrance doors.
Work on stripping out the interior of Debenhams, which closed in May 2021, started last year.
Primark confirmed in November it would open a store in Bury, creating 90 jobs. At that time, the company said it expected to open before the end of 2023.
In September, it started recruiting for the role of store manager but said there was no news to share about the shop’s opening date.
Primark employs more than 70,000 people in 14 countries, with 191 stores across the UK.
The first UK store launched in Derby in 1973.
The world’s biggest Primark opened in 2019 in Birmingham, featuring five floors, and more than 160,000 feet of retail space.
Everyman Cinema is set to open in the building’s basement.
