Vinyl Hunter in St John's Street Bury St Edmunds has been refurbished

Following a revamp over the summer a record shop in Bury St Edmunds is now open, offering a bigger café area and fresh new look.

Since Vinyl Hunter in St John's Street reopened in October it has attracted customers wanting to have a try on their 'listening post' and enjoy a cup of coffee.

The shop's owner Will Hunter admits he spent most of lockdown planning the refurbishment and was very hands-on turning his plans into reality.

Will said he is enjoying working in the new dynamic and one of his team Alfie, said the refurbishment has made the shop a 'really friendly place to walk into'.

Will added: "The 14-20 demographic seem to really like it and it was our desire to attract young people."

He is now waiting on an alcohol license for the shop and hopes to start hosting evening events at Vinyl Hunter in the coming weeks.

Will said he is expecting a busy spell in the run up to Christmas, which he describes as a 'vital' time for independent businesses, like many in St John's Street.

He said: "We sell a lot of records at Christmas, they are a sentimental gift."

Mark Cordell, chief executive of Our Bury St Edmunds said: "I was delighted to be able to help Vinyl Hunter find a temporary home at the top of St Johns Street a few weeks ago so they could continue to trade whilst the refurbishments were being carried out in their building.

"The improvements look great and even more welcoming than before."

Mr Cordell added: "Bury St Edmunds already attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year and we absolutely love to see successful Independent businesses that attract people to our town and Vinyl Hunter are undoubtedly one of these businesses.

"St John's Street remains a vibrant street with a great eclectic offering from the top to the bottom of the street, with very few vacant units.

"The street and Vinyl Hunter themselves are great examples of why Bury town centre continues to thrive”

During their refurbishment Vinyl Hunter gave away thousands of records from their pop up location in St John's Street.

The team at the shop asked customers to make donation to the Gatehouse charity based in Bury St Edmunds.

Vinyl Hunter were able to give £500 to Gatehouse which runs a foodbank and provides furniture to disadvantaged families and individuals, living on benefits or low incomes.
