New Aldi and Wendy’s on Rougham Hill in Bury St Edmunds could create about 80 jobs

About 80 jobs would be created from a new supermarket and fast food restaurant opening in Bury St Edmunds.

West Suffolk Council revealed yesterday an Aldi supermarket and a Wendy’s drive-through would be tenants at its redevelopment of the former household waste recycling site on Rougham Hill.

Both Aldi and Wendy’s have signed agreements to lease buildings, which, subject to a planning application and final costs, would be built over the next few years.

Today, the council confirmed both businesses would create about 40 jobs each, with a mixture of full and part time, in addition to construction roles.

Aldi already has a store in Newmarket Road in the town and the Wendy’s would be the company’s first drive-through restaurant in the region.

A public consultation by the authority runs until Wednesday, April 16.

The council will also hold a drop in event on Wednesday, April 2 from 4pm to 8pm at Bury St Edmunds Rugby Club.

The feedback from the consultation event will be considered by the council ahead of a planning application being submitted over the coming months.
