Bury St Edmunds Burger Amour restaurant shuts after footfall from Cineworld drops
A Bury St Edmunds restaurant has closed due to dwindling footfall at a nearby cinema.
Burger Amour, in Parkway, shut about a week ago with the majority of its staff moving across to sister restaurant Dough & Co in Abbeygate Street.
Owner Chris Sharman launched the eatery in November 2020 at the former ASK Italian next door to Cineworld.
He said there wasn't enough footfall from the cinema to keep the restaurant going at that site and they are now looking for an alternative location in Bury.
Mr Sharman, who runs a chain of Burger Amours and Dough & Cos, said: "It's quite a sad decision for us to close the restaurant but having it there doesn't make sense.
"There's no point to run a huge site with massive energy costs either when we are better suited to a smaller site."
He said they had a couple of alternative sites in mind in Bury.
He is set to open other Burger Amours in Ipswich, Daventry and Hanley.
