Residents decide how £50,000 will be spent in Breckland’s communities
Residents in Breckland will soon have a say on how £50,000 of Pride in Breckland funding will be spent to support projects and communities.
Each of the district’s five market towns, including Thetford, and their surrounding villages has been allocated £10,000 from the project, which is supported by Breckland District Council.
This can be used for capital or revenue projects which fit with Pride in Breckland’s aim of ‘getting active’ - whether it be physically active with a sports activities or within in the community through volunteering or starting up a new group.
Five local organisations will run the Participatory Budgeting sessions within their local communities and will be asking people to get involved. The Keystone Development Trust will cover Thetford and its hinterlands; the Wayland Partnership will cover the Wayland area; the Iceni Partnership will cover Swaffham and its surrounding villages; and Attleborough and Dereham Town Councils will administer funds for their respective towns and surrounding areas.
Breckland executive member for community and environmental services Lynda Turner said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for clubs and organisations that just need a little funding to get their projects off the ground, and I look forward to seeing some great new initiatives happening in the district. Throughout the process it will be local people who determine how the money is spent in their communities.”
To have your say on how the money is spent, or if you have a project which needs funding, contact the organisation in your area for an application pack or information on getting involved.
