Rattlesden man’s threats to burn partner’s house down
A man who choked his partner and threatened to burn her house down had ‘a lot on his mind’, a court has heard.
Ryan Preston Griffin, 29, of Top Road, Rattlesden, pleaded guilty to common assault and threatening to destroy property at Bury St Edmunds Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
Prosecuting, Ian Devine said Griffin put his hands around his partner’s throat, choking her for around 10 seconds, and made a number of threats, including burning her house down, on December 3.
In mitigation, Helen Korfanty said Griffin regretted his actions and would not have carried out his threats, but knew they were ‘frightening’.
She said he ‘had a lot on his mind’ after getting himself into ‘a lot of debt’.
Griffin was released on conditional bail until January 5.
