Bury St Edmunds railway station’s northern ‘turret’ in line for repairs if planners approve new scheme

Refurbishment and repair works at Bury St Edmunds Railway Station could be in the pipeline if plans are given the nod.

West Suffolk Council planners are considering the application by Abellio Greater Anglia for listed building consent to refurbish and repair platform two at the northern elevation turret feature and the associated platform level room.

A design, access and heritage statement said the proposal was part of a ‘sustained programme of works’ to improve the grade-II listed station, with the latest work focussing on the north elevation turret feature from car park to roof level to improve structural defects and waterproofing.

John Popham, of BSE Rail Station Group, said the group supported the ‘much-needed and well-prepared’ application and added that it was important for the correct mix of lime mortar to be used.
