Guildhall Feoffment Community Primary School, in Bury St Edmunds, maintains ‘good’ Ofsted grading

A primary school described as a ‘happy place to learn’ has secured grades of ‘good’ across the board following an Ofsted inspection.

Guildhall Feoffment Community Primary School, in Bridewell Lane, Bury St Edmunds, was inspected by the education regulator in January.

The school scored ‘good’ for: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management, and early years provision. Its last full inspection, in 2011, also found it to be good.

In the latest Ofsted report, the school was praised for a well-balanced curriculum, high expectations for pupils, and staff members’ positive and warm relationships with pupils.

Pupils achieve well, older pupils are proud to have responsibilities, such as on the school council, and students enjoy the range of clubs available, such as gardening and coding.

The report said: “Guildhall Feoffment is a happy place to learn. Pupils enjoy coming to school and look forward to their fun learning activities.”

It added: “Pupils listen well to each other. They respect each other’s views, and they understand the importance of respecting differences between people.”

Ofsted said staff adapt learning to meet pupils’ needs in lessons, and as a result, pupils with SEND (special educational needs and/or disabilities) achieve well.

The school’s leadership team ensures that pupils achieve as highly as possible and staff morale is high and teachers enjoy working at the school, the report continued.

To improve further, Ofsted said the school should focus on identifying the key knowledge in some foundation subjects to ensure pupils don’t have gaps in what they know and remember.

The school was approached for comment.
