Prison Week returns to St Edmundsbury Cathedral

St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury St Edmunds, will hold a special service at 10.30 am to mark 'Prisons Week' on Sunday.

For more than forty years Prisons Week has encouraged communities to pray for the needs of all those affected by prisons: prisoners and their families, victims of crime and their communities, those working in the criminal justice system and the many people who are involved in caring for those affected by crime on the inside and outside of our prisons.

"Prisons Week gives us an annual focus and reason to work in partnership across Suffolk, raising awareness and praying for people who are out of sight and often out of mind" comments the Reverend Canon Philip Banks, Canon Precentor at the Cathedral.

St Edmundsbury Cathedral will host it's annual Prison Week.

The service will include prayers for prisoners, victims and staff, and involves prison governors and chaplains from HMP Highpoint, HMP Warren Hill and HMP/YOI Hollesley Bay.

The Bishop, the Right Reverend Martin Seeley, will preside at this service of Holy Communion.

The address will be given by Catherine Todd, Chaplaincy HQ Advisor and Quaker Faith Advisor.

Following the service there will be a Q&A session with Catherine Todd, the Reverend Deacon Alan McMahon, Managing Chaplain at Highpoint, and the High Sheriff, Mr Edward Creasy. This will be held in the Cathedral Centre, where refreshments will be provided.

All are welcome to the service and Q&A afterwards. No pre-booking is required.
