Primary school in Haughley receives good Ofsted rating

A primary school in Haughley has received a ‘good’ rating from Ofsted - two years after inspectors said the school required improvement.

Headteacher at Crawford’s CEVA Primary School, Emma Jones, who joined the school two weeks before the 2013 inspection, said the turnaround reflected the hard work of teachers and governors.

“There are still some areas we need to work on to receive an outstanding classification,” she said, “but these are quite specific and this is something I am confident we can achieve very quickly.”

The report says standards have ‘significantly improved’ since the last inspection and that the school’s curriculum is ‘carefully designed to enthuse pupils and create a love of learning’.

“For us the most important area has been developing the curriculum and providing exciting opportunities for the children to bring learning to life,” said Mrs Jones.

“Our Crawford’s Cogs scheme has been a big thing for us. It is about learning behaviours which help develop creativity, respect, independence, being a team player and being inquisitive.”

Inspectors said although teaching was now good across the school, standards could still improve in some English and maths lessons.

Caroline Robinson, chairman of the school’s governing body, praised Mrs Jones’ leadership.

“Since joining the school two years ago Emma Jones has had an outstanding impact on the quality of education at Crawford’s,” she said.

“She is well supported by a committed and hard working team of teachers, support staff and governors who work together to improve the educational experience of the children at Crawford’s.”
