Pothole in Cullum Road, Bury St Edmunds, repaired by Suffolk Highways
Suffolk Highways has confirmed that a large pothole on a key route in Bury St Edmunds has been repaired.
This comes after at least seven vehicles were damaged after hitting the pothole, in Cullum Road, last Tuesday night.
Since the start of the month drivers have been logging the pothole, using the Suffolk Highways reporting tool.
One driver said the pothole was massive and about the depth of a football.
They said they had been driving at 11pm and because they were unable to see the pothole in the dark they hit it, bursting a tyre on their vehicle.
Last week, Dom Martin, 40, and wife Zoe, 34, of Diss, told SuffolkNews they feared a bill of hundreds of pounds after hitting the pothole.
Responding to the SuffolkNews story on Facebook last week one reader said: “The state of the roads in and around Bury are absolutely shocking.”
“As fast as they ‘repair’ one hole another opens up.
“Bring back the two man teams with wheelbarrows and shovels who knew how to fix potholes properly.”
David Bolton added: “I hit that pothole, I was amazed I didn't at least have a tyre go never mind suspension damage or anything else.”
A Suffolk Highways spokesman said: “The only outstanding reactive maintenance on Cullum Road currently is line refreshing, so unrelated to pothole repairs”
