The Apex behind the scenes photo series will be released in an upcoming exhibit
In 2019 social documentary photographer Geoff Price, was commissioned to capture images of The Apex in Bury St Edmunds, in their 'A Year in the Life' series in the lead up to their 10th anniversary, these pre-lockdown images will now be displayed to the public for five weeks, showing the popular venue in a never before seen light.
The free exhibit will run from October 20 - November 21, encapsulating the broad range of pre-pandemic events this community hub offered.
"The images are all two years old at a maximum but in light of the Covid they feel so much older" said Geoff.
He began his photographic adventure with the apex in February 2019, finishing in January 2020, months before the pandemic became universally widespread.
From 700 images only 90 have made the final cut, covering everything from headline acts to baby ballet.
Wherever possible, Geoff obtains permission from the subjects of his images, as he believes gaining peoples trust is the best way to capture their true likeness.
"I needed to tread as silently, carefully and furtively as cat pursuing its prey" remarks Geoff on his Suffolk Sinfonia series, in which he captured their rehearsal session.
In total 21 events were covered as part of the display.
"I hope people see this display for the life that was there and will come back to these venues again" remarked Geoff.
The series takes the public on a journey of discovery, from the hard work that takes place in the kitchen, preparing catered meals to the masses, to the tuning of instruments before show time, there is so much to behold within this exhibit.
Whilst tickets are free, it is recommended that people book in advance on The Apex website.
