Poppy Jade opens her nail salon in Elsey's Yard, Bury St Edmunds
A young entrepreneur has opened her first nail art salon in Bury St Edmunds.
Poppy Jade Walker is 22 and launched the Poppy Jade Nail salon in Elsey’s Yard off Risbygate Street this week.
The talented young woman has been in the nail industry for just four years working for salons in the area before setting up her own mobile business in October.
Demand was exceeding supply and when she learned of the opportunity to open her own salon in the town she jumped at the chance.
On Sunday she and partner Ashley Leech held a launch party at the business which the couple have completely overhauled and decorated in tasteful pink and grey tones.
Poppy who lives in Sapiston, went to County Upper School. She said: “We saw this unit and it was just perfect. I had a bit of money from my nan but I’ve done it all by myself with lots of hard work and savings. It proves if you want something you can do it. There were times when I wanted to give up but I’m so glad I kept going.”
Poppy got into the industry after becoming tired of having her nails done all the time and decided to take train as a nail technician herself.
“First I did my friends and family and then it grew and I got my own little empire.”
She hopes to take on some help at the salon as time goes on to cope with demand.
Salon opening times are Mondays and Wednesdays 10am to 6pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am to 8pm and Fridays 10am to 3pm. Call 01284 615657.
