Suffolk Police's warning to people buying and selling goods online after a car is damaged in Mildenhall

Police have warned social media users to be vigilant when buying and selling items online after a car was reportedly damaged in Mildenhall.

The incident occurred at some point between 5pm and 6pm on Saturday, when two men visited a house in College Heath Road claiming to be interested in buying a car that had been posted online as for sale.

While one of the men engaged the owner of the car in conversation, the other is said to have poured oil in the coolant tank and an unknown substance in the exhaust.

The men then took the vehicle for a test drive and when the exhaust started to smoke, offered a considerably discounted price for the car.

They also suggested that the victim pay them for wasting their time but both requests were declined and the men left empty handed.

The first man, believed to be in his late 30s, is described as being of tanned complexion, of stocky build and around 5ft 9ins in height.

He is also said to be bald and was wearing a white t-shirt.

The second man, thought to be in his mid-20s, is described as being of tanned complexion, of slim build and 6ft.

He also had short black hair and was wearing jeans with a blue top.

Suffolk Police have warned those selling goods online to be cautious, particularly when payments have not been made in advance.

Sellers are advised to review a buyer's profile to check their history and that they have genuine details.

Anyone with information or who believes they have been targeted in a similar way is asked to call the Incident and Crime Management Hub at Suffolk Police on 101 quoting reference 37/49725/19.

Alternatively, you can phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, report online at www.suffolk.police.uk/contact-us/existing-report-update or email ICMH@suffolk.pnn.police.uk.
