Police investigation launched after allegation of rape and assault in Bury St Edmunds

A police investigation has been launched after an allegation of rape and assault in Bury St Edmunds.
The incident is alleged to have happened in the early hours of last Friday morning in a wooded area near Cumberland Avenue.
It is thought the two individuals were previously known to each other.
A 22-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and rape and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
He was subsequently released on bail to answer on February 12 pending further inquiries.
