SuffolkNews Podcast: Abbeygate Cinema in Bury St Edmunds reacts to plans for Everyman Cinema at town's former Debenhams
In today's podcast we discuss how the manager of an independent cinema in Bury St Edmunds has said they embrace the potential arrival of a new picture house chain in the town.
Gareth Boggis, general manager of Abbeygate Cinema, said after 100 years in the town it is 'used to competition and challengers' after proposals were revealed to transform part of the basement of the former Debenhams at the arc shopping centre into an Everyman Cinema.
The cinema would feature four screens and a smaller screen for private hire as well as a small bar/restaurant. The Everyman Group has 36 cinemas across the UK.
Also, a garden centre, based in Woodbridge, has celebrated its 125th anniversary with the launch of its fully refurbished site, including a new restaurant.
Meanwhile, plans for two Suffolk councils to reduce their office space in Ipswich have been challenged by councillors over concerns there was not enough detail about costs.
A rare truncheon telling a piece of Suffolk's history from the late 18th century is set to be sold at auction this week.
A spokeswoman for the auctioneers said truncheons are considered 'exceptionally rare and are therefore highly prized and sought-after'.
