Work planned for new look for Bury St Edmunds town centre building as menswear retailer Brook Taverner set to open shop

The details of work planned for a Bury St Edmunds town centre building have been revealed ahead of a new menswear shop opening.

Retailer Brook Taverner is taking one of the new units at the converted former Palmers department store in Buttermarket.

In April, an 'opening soon' sign appeared in the window of the building and vacancies for roles of store manager, supervisor and customer advisor were advertised.

Proposed work, detailed by CS2 Ltd on behalf of Brook Taverner, focuses on the look of the outside of the building.

Proposals, submitted to West Suffolk Council, include the redecoration of the existing timber front as well as sign writing on the façade and new hanging signage.

The front of the store is currently grey in colour and Brook Taverner has proposed a navy blue re-paint with a bold white font displaying the shop name.

In a public Design and Access Statement, the company explained the incoming tenant will not require changes to the structure of the front of the shop and will simply redecorate to match their branding.

They added: "The new signage and decoration works will provide a much-improved aesthetic appearance to the store frontage which will in turn improve the overall look of the area."

A new outside air conditioning condenser unit has also been proposed to keep the shop comfortable for staff and customers.

In the statement, Brook Taverner said the unit would be placed on a flat roof area to the back of the property so it cannot be seen by members of the public.
