PICTURES: Suffolk Day celebrations have added purpose for Bury school
A Bury St Edmunds school marked a multitude of initiatives during its action packed Suffolk Day celebrations.
Riverwalk School welcomed a wealth of visitors and organisations including a fire engine, cheerleaders, animals and a balloon modeller during Thursday's festivities.
The event raised awareness of a £500,000 fund-raising bid for an accessible swimming pool at the school's new site in Mayfield Road.
Charity West Suffolk and Riverwalk Accessible Pool has been set up to raise funds for the facility, which will also be open to the community and will be in memory of teacher James Brooke who died after a parachuting accident in May.
The school, which caters for pupils with severe, profound and complex learning needs, used the occasion to bid farewell to its Chevington Close site as it is moving to Mayfield Road at the end of July.
It also held its sports day on Thursday.
Headteacher Jan Hatchell said the 'amazing day' was an opportunity for pupils to have fun but also to show visitors that the school is 'full of life'.
There were donations from Tesco, the Co-op, Sainsbury's, Waitrose and Asda.
