Bury St Edmunds Motorsport East event attracts thousands
Thousands of people attended a motorsport event at the weekend.
The Motorsport East event was held on Sunday between 10am and 4pm in Bury St Edmunds town centre.
The motor sport day is new venture by Business Improvement District (BID) - Our Bury St Edmunds.
Some 60 cars from different motorsport disciplines rolled in for the day.
People also shared advice and tips on racing and clubs.
Guest of honour was F1 commentator Ben Edwards, and the event was free-admission.
Mark Cordell, BID CEO, said: “We were very pleased with the great success of this new event.
"Those who attended showed great interest in the cars, with one car, I am told, being valued at over £1m.
"The event brought far greater numbers in to the town centre than on a normal Sunday and we were delighted that BID members, Beautiful Beers, Papaki’s Deli and A Plan Insurance took up the opportunity to have a free presence at the event and benefitted directly from the crowds attending.
"We were so fortunate to avoid the heavy showers that many people nearby experienced."
It has been several years since the town centre hosted a motorsport show.
Sunday's event, was put together by well-known local rallycross commentator and motorsport journalist Arthur Debenham.
It filled the Buttermarket and Cornhill areas.
On display were a wide range of competition cars from the many disciplines of motorsport from race to rally, rallycross, short-circuit (oval), trials, sprints, karting.
Cars ranged from those that raced at Brooklands prior to WWII, to the latest 600 BHP Supercars, and more.
Local clubs, race and rally car preparation specialists, engine builders, and model makers were also represented.
The show raised funds in aid of East Anglian Air Ambulance.
"The event was our commitment to the “Sunday Fundays” initiative in the Town Centre that the BID and West Suffolk Council organise as part of the “Bury Bouncing Back” initiative and we look forward to organising our Food and Drink Festival over the August Bank Holiday weekend," added Mr Cordell.
"Our Bury St Edmunds and Motorsport East would also like to thank A1 Cars Suffolk LTD for their assistance."
