Pet gerbil rescued after house fire in Tollgate Lane in Bury St Edmunds




A pet gerbil was rescued and given oxygen after a house fire in a town.

Fire crews were called at 3.15am today to a fire that had broken out in the upstairs bedroom of a house in Tollgate Lane, Bury St Edmunds.

A Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the blaze was extinguished using two hose-reel jets by firefighters in breathing apparatus.

There were no injuries.

A pet gerbil was rescued and given oxygen using a Smokey Paws pet oxygen mask.

Two engines from Bury St Edmunds attended and left the scene at 5am.

The ambulance service attended but was not required.
