Hundreds come together in anniversary event for Bury St Edmunds Parkrun in Nowton Park
Almost 300 people took to Nowton Park in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday to mark the tenth anniversary of Parkrun.
The event kicked off in the morning, with participants running a 5k course.
Event director Susan Dunne said: “We had 277 participants, some running, some walking.
“Several of the original team who did the trial runs ten years ago were there, as were some of the past run directors, and lots of people who’ve been associated with it all along.
“They ran it backwards, as a surprise for everyone – which they all enjoyed!”
Over 10,000 people have taken part in the Bury event since it started in 2013.
One of the organisers of the latest run, Steve Pretty, said: “We had a number of people in fancy dress, and lots of people were wearing their Parkrun anniversary T-shirts – it made it look very colourful!”
Parkrun is held every Saturday morning in Nowton Park.
Mr Pretty said of the event: “It’s aimed at people of all levels of fitness.
“We have some very experienced runners there, from running clubs, but we also encourage people to walk, people that are getting into fitness or recovering from injury, or who have health issues.”
