Parking plans for Bury St Edmunds get the go-ahead
St Edmundsbury Borough Council has backed major changes to parking in Bury St Edmunds - including limiting weekend parking at Parkway multi-storey to just four hours.
The plans, which will come into effect in April next year, include increases in weekend tariffs at Parkway Surface and St Andrews Short Stay car parks as well as increased weekday charges at the Parkway multi-storey.
The plans, recommended by an Overview and Scrutiny Committee review group, were rubber-stamped by the cabinet on Tuesday.
Parking at the town’s multi-storey car park will be limited to a four hour maximum at weekends, with the exemption of weekly and season ticket holders, and Ram Meadow Car Park will be rebranded as the Visitor and Long Stay Car Park.
The plans also include a hike in season ticket prices at Parkway and St Andrews car parks, a review of the car park signage in the town and the purchase of two additional electric car charging points in Bury. The group also recommended that a formal review is set up to identify additional parking provision to make up for the shortfall in spaces in the future.
