Paralympian Sean Rose inspires children at Great Whelnetham Church of England Primary School, near Bury St Edmunds

Children enjoyed an ‘unforgettable’ experience when a GB Paralympic skier and adventurer visited their school.

Double winter Paralympian Sean Rose visited Great Whelnetham Church of England Primary School, near Bury St Edmunds, last week.

It was part of the Great Athletes initiative where athletes visit schools to inspire children.

Sean won Britain's first Ski World Cup Downhill Gold and became a World Water Ski champion. A ski accident in 2000 left him paralysed, though Sean did not let that stop him. He retired in 2013 as Britain's most successful alpine ski racer.

At Great Whelnetham, Sean shared his inspirational story of resilience and determination in a fun and interactive assembly.

He led a sponsored fitness circuit raising money for both his organisation and the primary school, which Great Whelnetham will use to purchase new sports equipment and improve levels of physical activity in the school.

The school’s sports coordinator Claire Masson said they had ‘the incredible privilege’ of welcoming the Paralympian to Great Whelnetham.

She said: “Sean, a world-class sportsman and adventurer, led training circuits for each class before sharing his truly inspirational journey.

“Inspired by Sean’s message of perseverance and a positive mindset, pupils took on physical challenges throughout the day, putting his key lessons into practice.

“It was an unforgettable experience, and we are so grateful to Sean for sharing his passion, determination and incredible achievements with us. He has truly inspired a school full of champions!”

The sponsored circuits have raised more than £800 - and the figure continues to rise.
