Primark in Bury St Edmunds to open on March 6

Primark has revealed the opening date of its much-anticipated Bury St Edmunds store.

The fashion retailer will welcome customers to the new branch at the arc Shopping Centre on Wednesday, March 6 at 10am.

The 33,300 sq. ft store on the ground and first floors of the former Debenhams has created more than 100 jobs.

There will be a live DJ on the day.

Philippa Nibbs, Primark director of sales UK, London and the South East, said: “Since we first announced plans to open the store it's been great to see such a positive reaction from the local community and we’re thrilled to confirm the date we will be opening the doors to the people of Bury St Edmunds.

“We’ve welcomed more than 100 new retail colleagues to our team as part of the opening and we’re looking forward to becoming a part of the community.”

The new Primark in Bury St Edmunds is set to be the company’s 193rd store in the UK and will be the first to open since its Salisbury branch in September.

The firm confirmed in November 2022 that it would open the Bury branch.

It was initially due to welcome customers before the end of last year.

It followed months of speculation and demand from shoppers across West Suffolk with thousands joining the Primark for Bury St Edmunds Facebook group.

Meanwhile, an Everyman Cinema is set to launch in the basement of the former Debenhams on Wednesday.

It is the cinema chain’s 45th venue and it will have three screens and 228 seats.

Alongside the opening, Everyman is offering complimentary tickets for its first four screenings.

Debenhams shut in May 2021 when the struggling firm disappeared from the high street following a multi-million pound takeover of the brand which excluded its shops.

The retailer was the arc’s flagship and opened at the launch of the shopping centre 15 years ago.
