One Bull takes our reader vote
The One Bull has been voted Best Bar 2014 by Bury Free Press readers.
When owner David Marjoram heard the news, he insisted the whole staff should be photographed at the pub in Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds, to recognise those he felt had made it possible.
David, who has had the pub for more than six years, said: “From a product point of view, we work really hard. We make our own beer, we aim to have the best gin and tonic in Bury and we’re recognised as having the best pub wine list in the UK, but it’s also about the team and the way they look after their customers.”
He points out that with so many new chain and independent restaurants and bars having opened in the town, it is the way customers are treated that makes the difference and makes them keep coming back.
The One Bull is no stranger to awards. Among them are the Imbibe Pub Wine List of the year in 2010 and 2011 plus a commendation in 2014 and Publican’s Morning Advertiser Best Wine Pub in 2013 and 2014.
But David said: “Best Bar is local – it’s been voted for by our customers.”
Readers’ votes put The Mason’s Arms, Whiting Street, second, followed by The Dove in Hospital Road.
