Noise from Stanton roadworks keeps young family awake

A mother with two young children has hit out at the decision by a council to undertake roadworks near her Stanton street at night.

Natalie Vaughan said the noise from resurfacing works on the A143 has repeatedly woken her family up during the night since the project, managed by Suffolk County Council, began on October 12.

The stay-at-home mum, who lives in Culvers Meadow with her husband Aaron and daughters Imogen, four, and Caitlin, eight months, said she has spoken to neighbours who are also concerned about the disruption.

“From 7.30pm, which is the time I put my kids to bed, throughout the night the noise is horrendous,” she said.

“I have a four-year-old who has just started school so she needs to sleep, and my eight-month-old has been up for two hours at night, just crying.

“The estate is quite close to the road, really. We’ve had vehicles come down the road during the night, it’s so bad the buildings were shaking.

“They’re obviously doing it at night to stop the hassle in the daytime, it’s a busy road. But they should be more aware of the fact that people live here. It is right through the heart of the village.”

A county council spokesman said the ‘important resurfacing work’ was being undertaken at night to reduce the disruption to road users.

He said: “We apologise for the noise caused but we endeavour to keep disruption and noise to an absolute minimum during any works.”

He added the project was due to finish on Wednesday, October 21.
