West Suffolk District Council confirms jobs in St Edmundsbury and Forest Heath merger
No employees will be made redundant when St Edmundsbury and Forest Heath councils formally merge from April 1.
The creation of the new West Suffolk Council will save around £800,000 a year and protect annual savings of £4million that the two councils have made from sharing services and staff.
It will be staffed by the existing 700 officers.
Earlier this month St Edmundsbury and Forest Heath held their final respective council meetings.
Moves have been made to harmonise services since 2012, and staff services have been combined in many departments for some time.
One councillor told the Bury Free Press the public would not see ‘significant change’.
The first election for West Suffolk District Council will be held on May 2.
