New route for Lisa’s sweet shop as it goes by bus

Lisa Holland is going to be taking the bus to work from now on as her sweet shop business takes a new route

The business, which began in a gazebo that blew away, has now moved into an ex-London double decker bus Lisa and husband Andy converted.

The Fornham St Martin couple are launching Lisa Jayne’s Sweet Shop and Shake Bar bus in Bury St Edmunds’ arc over Whitsun weekend, then it will go to events and be available for hire for weddings and corporate functions.

Downstairs is a kitchen serving shakes, smoothies and coffees, while upstairs is a sweetshop with candy floss and a slush machine.

Lisa was working for Greene King when plumbing engineer Andy suggested it would be less stressful to work for him doing his books.

But Lisa said: “After I sorted them all out, it got a bit boring. I’m a do-er and wanted to do something for myself. I love sweets and wanted a sweet shop, but couldn’t afford the rates and things.”

So she started with agazeebos and then a trailer.

Lisa added: “One day we were chatting about how we could make it bigger and I don’t know how it came up, but we thought it would be a good idea to buy a bus.”

When they discovered a professional conversion would cost £60,000, they decided to do it themselves, which took nine months, fitting it around work.

The bus was white but they resprayed it red, as it would have been when it first took to the road in Plumstead in 1986, where it may have taken local boy Andy to school.
