New pub to open in Bury St Edmunds town centre to replace The Snug bar

A new pub is set to open in Bury St Edmunds town centre to replace a bar after it was announced that it was closing on Friday.

Joint owners, couples Craig and Julie Nichols and Andrew and Diana Grant are bringing The Tavern pub to St John's Street to replace The Snug bar.

Craig said: "We are really so proud to be part of the amazing St John’s Street and cannot wait to get going."

The head chef Glen Wardle and co-owner Craig Nichols are returning to the exact site where they both

took their first steps into hospitality at The Wolf pub just over 22 years ago.

Craig added: "At The Tavern on St John’s, we want to create a relaxed, friendly, classic pub atmosphere. So, to go along with that, we felt the ideal food offering would be a fun and informal menu that encourages the idea of sharing. Small plates of wonderful, fresh, home cooked dishes perfect for mixing and matching between friends. You will be able to visit the Tavern and never have the same meal twice.

"All this, plus an amazing daily pizza menu. And do not worry about Sunday’s either as we aim to

bring the best roast around to Bury St Edmunds very soon.

We feel it is hugely important to have something for everyone."

The pub will also have an extensive range of alcoholic drinks, soft drinks and hot beverages from local suppliers.

As well as offering a selection of real ales - they are having real ale pumps installed.

The owners are planning on opening the pub on Friday, May 24 with the opening night featuring music from the soulful funk band Yogi and the invasion.

Live music will be offered most Friday evenings with various other musical events being arranged.
