Haverhill couple take over Rougham Post Office and Stores near Bury St Edmunds
The new owners of Rougham Post Office and Stores near Bury St Edmunds, said customers and staff have been fantastic as they get used to 'learning the ropes'.
Jane and Mike Bezant, who moved from Haverhill to take over at the village shop in Kingshall Street, said they are keen to keep selling fresh products sourced from farmers in Suffolk.
Bakery items are already proving popular, with 100 hot cross buns sold in just one day in the run up to Easter.
Customers have been travelling from Bury St Edmunds and the surrounding villages to the store, which is open seven days a week. The post office is open everyday except Sunday.
Jane, 48, who used to work in social care, thanked the previous owners of the post office and stores, Annette and Colin, who were 'really helpful' when handing over their business of 12 years.
Mike, 50, who was a postman for more than 20 years, is using his experience in the post office, whilst Jane is enjoying chatting to customers as she works in the store.
The couple, who have five children, said they are getting used to working together for the first time.
Speaking about the support from their family, Jane said: "Our children are really excited and happy for us.
"They are really pleased that we are finally doing something we have wanted to do for a long time."
As well as continuing to support farmers and small businesses the couple hope to eventually be able to sell hot drinks for their customers to enjoy in a seating area, outside the front of the shop.
