RAF Honington has a new Station Commander in Group Captain Mick Smeath, who takes over from Group Captain Scott Miller.

Grp Capt Smeath has seen operational service around the world including Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia and Northern Ireland. He comes to Suffolk from the Australian Defence College in Canberra.

He said: “Assuming command of RAF Honington is both a privilege and responsibility.

“One of my key challenges will be working with the Protection Force, both RAF Regiment and RAF Police, to look at contingency post operation Herrick in Afghanistan as well as how we fulfil our remit within the wider RAF.

“I intend to embrace and support fully our place in the Honington community, ensuring that the strong bonds already forged by my predecessor are maintained and new ones fostered.” Grp Capt Miller moves to the Defence Academy.
