New headteacher at top school in Barrow pledges to build on its ‘brilliant work’

The new headteacher of an ‘outstanding’ rated village school has pledged to build on its ‘brilliant work’ to ensure every child flourishes.

Helen Ashe has taken on the leading role at Barrow CEVC Primary after serving as deputy head for two years and more recently as acting head.

It follows the departure of Alison Earl, who has taken on the post of headteacher at Tollgate Primary, in Bury St Edmunds.

Both schools are part of the all-through Bury Academy Trust, which is led by County Upper.

Mrs Ashe previously worked at St Mary’s, in Mildenhall and was seconded to Tollgate as head of school for a term this summer.

She is also a Specialist Leader in Education and works with the West Suffolk All-Through Teaching School Alliance.

She said: “I’m passionate about building on the brilliant work that has been done here over the last few years to develop Barrow further into a strong, vibrant and thriving learning community for the future.

“My goal is to continue to harness our professionalism, expertise and moral purpose to ensure that every child in this school flourishes, whilst at the same time supporting the aims of our all-through partnerships.”

Dr Viv Hughes, chairman of governors, added: “With Mrs Ashe as our headteacher, the governors know that Barrow will continue to move forward confidently and successfully.

“Her appointment provides the school with seamless excellent leadership.”

The Bury Academy Trust, which operates a 4-19 all-through system, also includes Westley and Horringer Court Middle Schools.
