Greater Anglia installs new defibrillators at Bury St Edmunds, Needham Market and Stowmarket rail stations
New defibrillators have been installed at three Greater Anglia rail stations in Suffolk.
Fifteen Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) have been installed at stations across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk in a drive to provide more life-saving heart resuscitators.
In Suffolk, stations in Bury St Edmunds, Needham Market and Stowmarket have benefitted from the scheme.
Diss, Thetford and Soham have also seen defibrillators installed at their stations.
Greater Anglia’s head of facilities management, Mark Ellis, said, “Statistics show that 20% of cardiac arrests occur in a public place.
“There is compelling evidence that defibrillation at the earliest possible point after a person collapses can significantly increase their chances of survival, so it’s vital that this life saving equipment is available in public places, particularly somewhere very busy like rail stations.”
“The installation of these defibrillators means that we are better prepared to provide assistance in the event of a first aid emergency.”
The life-saving equipment is small, safe and lightweight and delivers a shock to treat someone in cardiac arrest.
Anyone is able to use them in the event of an emergency by calling 999 to be given a code to open the defibrillators storage box.
