Former manager of closed LP in Bury St Edmunds to open new Verve Bar and Restaurant at premises

The former manager of a bar and nightclub in Bury St Edmunds which closed earlier this year is to open a new venue at the empty premises.

Wes Roper will launch Verve Bar and Restaurant at the former LP, in Woolhall Street, next month with brother Levi-Jack Roper and best friend Max Cunningham.

The 22-year-old was manager at LP and worked there for about five years until it closed permanently in January due to the impact of the coronavirus restrictions.

He said: "We were presented with the opportunity and thought it would too good to turn down."

Mr Roper said the venue was a 'fantastic place' and they thought they could 'reinvigorate' it.

Before it closed, LP's upstairs nightclub was transformed into a lounge bar.

Mr Roper said the area will be revamped as a cocktail lounge bar with dance floor space as they try to offer a 'more experience based evening' and the venue will remain open into the early hours.

They will also refresh the menu but continue to serve wood-fired pizzas, which LP was well known for.

"We're going to expand the menu over the next few months to diversify over different areas," said Mr Roper.

"It's very exciting and we can't wait to open."

He added they were looking to welcome customers from mid-June.

On Instagram they posted that they were recruiting for a range of full time and part time roles including head chef, chefs, bartender/waiters, baristas and bar backs/pot washers.
