Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service battle blaze at Nutshells Tea Room in Stowupland

Firefighters from across Suffolk battled a massive blaze which engulfed a village café today.

An incident was declared by Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service at the Nutshells Tea Room in Stowupland around 9.54am, with 13 vehicles attending.

The units were drawn from multiple stations, including Ipswich East, Woodbridge, Princes Street, Framlingham, Eye, Stowmarket, Haverhill, Bury St Edmunds, Ixworth and Newmarket.

Residents were advised that they may have had power and phone problems while crews tackled the fire.

Those living in Saxham Street were urged to keep doors and windows closed due to smoke from the incident.

At about 4pm, the fire service said the blaze was under control and they were starting to scale down operations but would remain at the scene for the rest of the night.

They said the fire was accidental and crews were liaising with the owners to make the structure safe.
