Mildenhall play area repairs will start at ‘earliest opportunity’, council says
Work will soon begin to repair a playground in Mildenhall which was closed more than six months ago over safety conerns.
The play area, in Recreation Way, was closed in July last year after it was noted in a routine safety inspection that its safety surfacing began to lift and split.
Following several months of legal discussions after its installers refused to accept liability, Mildenhall Parish Council today announced it had resolved the situation and repair work would start ‘at the earliest opportunity’.
A spokeswoman for the council said: “The unfortunate delays which have occurred have been necessary because of the decision by the council to take legal advice following the denial of any liability by the company which originally installed the surface. The council is duty bound to resolve the legal situation and to explore all options before committing further public funds.
“A settlement has now been agreed and plans are being put in place to repair the surface at the earliest opportunity.
“Given the constraints of the weather, work will begin once the council is satisfied that any replacement will meet the requirements of both safety and durability, and a suitable contractor has been engaged.”
