Mildenhall College Academy students honoured at awards evening

An exceptional school year by Mildenhall College Academy was celebrated at their annual awards evening.

More than 90 students from across the Academy were awarded prizes for their outstanding effort and achievements at the ceremony, which was attended by more than 400 guests.

Guest speaker for the night was ex-pupil Private Ellie Gattlin, of the Royal Logistics Corps, who also plays rugby for Premier League outfit London Saracens and is an inspiration to many pupils.

Principal Susan Byles said: “It was a great evening. It was really wonderful to see so many people attend and to see the students presented with their prizes.

Private Gattlin gave a really inspirational speech and represented the British Army brilliantly. I feel extremely proud that Ellie is a former pupil of the school.

“A big thank you has to go to the many local companies for their sponsorship and who help make this night happen.”

Special mention goes to Esme Harrison who received the ‘Services to the Community’ award for her ongoing conservation work with the Rare Breeds Trust, Hannah Rogers who received a 100 per cent attendance award and Freddy Gallagher who was awarded full colours in football and has just been made captain of the Suffolk county football team.
