West Suffolk MP Matthew Hancock is pressuring ministers to secure extra funding for a Mildenhall school.

The business minister visited Mildenhall College Academy’s sixth form centre, in Sheldrick Way, on December 11.

Further to his visit, Mr Hancock spoke to the schools minister to press for extra funding for the academy.

Mr Hancock said: “The school has come a very long way with fantastic new facilities, but there’s a lot more to do and that’s why I have been pressuring ministers responsible to ensure extra funding is secured for the school given its vital role in Mildenhall.”

If it secures extra funding the school hopes to expand its provision of further education and vocational courses at the sixth form centre, as well as extending and upgrading its current buildings.

Principal Susan Byles said: “Matthew Hancock has always supported the idea of helping us find funding for a new school building in Mildenhall.

“The Mildenhall Hub plans would give us an opportunity to locate education and community facilities together and we are currently exploring ways to fund the project.”
