Multi-vehicle crash on A14 in Bury St Edmunds sees man in 80s suffer serious injuries




A man in his 80s suffered serious injuries in a multi-vehicle crash on the A14 in Bury St Edmunds.

Suffolk Police was alerted at 8.56am yesterday to the collision involving two cars and a van on the A14 eastbound just after the British Sugar factory.

The ambulance and fire services were called.

The fire service freed one person who was taken to hospital.

The van involved was a white Vauxhall Vivaro, while the two cars were a silver Renault Scenic and a grey Citroen C4.

The driver of the Renault, a man in his 80s, sustained serious injuries, described as life-changing.

He was taken by land ambulance to hospital, where he remains.

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said the East Anglian Air Ambulance, a SARS vehicle, three ambulances and two ambulance officer vehicles attended.

The road was closed in both directions before reopening firstly westbound, then one lane eastbound.

It fully reopened at 12.50pm.
