Bury St Edmunds man Daniel Dale charged with affray and possession of offensive weapon after police helicopter called to incident on Westley Estate




A man appeared in court yesterday after an incident on a Bury St Edmunds estate which led to a chase involving a police helicopter.

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, police received a report that a man had been causing a disturbance in the Wesley Estate area.

At about 3.20am officers attended an address in Ridley Road where the man climbed to the roof of the property and fled on foot.

He was chased by officers with the help of NPAS (National Police Air Service) and was found at the Skoda Garage, in Dettingen Way.

Shortly before 6am, a man in his 30s was arrested in connection with the incident.

He was taken to West Suffolk Hospital for assessment as a result of injuries suffered during the incident, and was later transferred to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Daniel Dale, 33, of Ridley Road in Bury St Edmunds, was charged with two counts of affray and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.

Dale was also wanted for failing to appear at court after being charged in connection with drug offences.

He appeared at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court yesterday and was remanded in custody to next appear at the court on March 23.
