Magistrates Court redevelopment in Thetford complete

A project to redevelop the old Magistrates Court in Thetford has reached completion, making more affordable housing available to local residents.

The project by Havebury Housing is a mixture of 14 one and two bedroom houses, made possible by grant funding from the Homes and Communities Agency.

Development director at Havebury Housing Scott Bailey said the housing partnership had ‘brought an old building back to life’ with the new development, working with the original structure to maintain the building’s character.

“We have ensured the building is well insulated which will result in fuel savings for tenants,” he added.

Director of resources at Havebury Housing Paul Edwards said: “We aim to increase our redevelopment portfolio over the coming years which will help local authorities to reduce their housing lists.”

Previous developments by the company include Mill Street in Mildenhall, where 12 affordable homes were built on a derelict former building merchant’s yard.

Havebury’s next redevelopment project is the old Good Sheds building in Thetford, adjacent to the railway station. Plans have been approved to build a further 14 one and two bedroom homes, with construction due to start in the new year.
