Stroke patients on G8 ward at West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds, treated to Christmas party
Patients on the stroke ward at West Suffolk Hospital, in Bury St Edmunds, have been treated to a Christmas party complete with carols, bingo and a quiz.
Organised by physiotherapists and occupational therapists on G8, the party brought smiles and laughter to the ward, allowing everyone to enjoy some festive cheer.
Therapists, therapy assistants, volunteers, housekeepers, doctors, consultants and nursing staff all joined in the celebrations.
Recently the team that organised the party introduced group motor therapy sessions for those being treated on G8.
The aim of the sessions is to provide patients with an opportunity for greater social interaction and improve their mental wellbeing, upper limb and lower limb strength, core stability, balance and mobility.
Pysiotherapist Zsara Finch said: “Our patients are really enjoying and feeling the benefit of these sessions, saying they are a ‘must attend event of the day’ and they ‘cheer everyone up’.
“They are proving to be valuable not only for physical health, but also socially.”
Zsara added: “We are continually searching for ways to keep these sessions fresh and interesting by providing a wide range of activities for our lovely patients.
“A projector kindly funded by My Wish Charity has been great, allowing us to incorporate both upper limb and lower limb activities with quizzes and games such as table football or throwing to targets.
“Magnetic darts and tenpin bowling have also been among our most popular activities.”
