Long service accountants have 65 years on the books

Two members of staff at a leading accountancy firms have clocked up 65 years of service between them.

Paul Milton, a manager at Lovewell Blake’s Bury St Edmunds office, began his career in 1979 providing accounting and taxation services to a wide range of businesses.

Now a specialist in management information systems, he says advances in technology have helped to keep the job interesting.

He said: “Computerised accounts came in in the early 1980s. Computers have been a big part of my working life ever since, meaning my career at Lovewell Blake has never stood still.

Colin Chamberlain, a tax adviser, joined from school in 1984 after getting his A-levels.

Based in Thetford, Mr Chamberlain recalled the time he joined: “Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister, the miners’ strike was in full swing and Frankie Goes to Hollywood were number one.”
