'Lifeline' Hopton day care centre to buy much-needed equipment
A Hopton service for people who could struggle to get out can now buy much-needed equipment thanks to a councillor’s support.
Hopton Day Care Centre, known as the ‘home from home’, opens every Wednesday for those who could be lonely or suffer social isolation, as well as give respite to family, friends and carers.
Councillor Carol Bull, whose Barningham ward includes Hopton, has given just under £1,000 from her locality budget towards a stand assist to help less mobile members move from their chair to the dining table or toilet, allowing people to continue at the centre when their mobility deteriorates.
Cllr Bull said: “The day care centre service is invaluable to so many people. It really does provide a lifeline for some of the most vulnerable people in our society as well as their everyday carers.”
Lesley Williams, centre chairwoman, said: “The stand assist could make all the difference as to whether someone feels comfortable.
“This one bit of kit is so vital to our work.”
The centre, which has been running for 27 years, is open to new members and needs volunteers. Call Joyce Barrett on 01953 688114 or Lesley on 01359 221583 for details.
