Liberal Democrats choose parliamentary candidate for Bury St Edmunds

The Liberal Democrats have selected David Chappell as their prospective parliamentary candidate for Bury St Edmunds.

It will be the third time he has contested the seat after standing in the 2005 and 2010 General Elections.

He and the local Liberal Democrat team pushed up the vote from 6,998 in 2001 to 15,519 in 2010.

Mr Chappell, of Fornham All Saints, has represented the area as both a parish and borough councillor.

He is a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors and has recently been working on the Kingdom Tower in Saudi Arabia.

He said that while the Lib Dems had paid a ‘political price’ for some of the decisions made by the Coalition Government, the country’s economy is ‘stable and we are on the road to recovery’.He said the Lib Dems had incorporated their manifesto into government policy - putting an extra £1,300 per annum per pupil into primary schools and £935 per secondary school pupil. He added they had also created 1.5 million apprenticeships, protected pensions, raised the tax threshold and the coalition had reversed the decline in social housing.
