A Dickensian-themed street fair got underway in Lavenham on Friday with late night shopping and a Christmas lights switch-on.

The fun continued over the weekend with thousands of people - many in fancy dress - shopping for festive gifts and crafts from among the dozens of stalls on offer, and families enjoying donkey sleigh rides, musical entertainment, a Ferris wheel nicknamed ‘the Lavenham Eye’ and Santa’s grotto.

Lesley Thomson, one of the event’s coordinators, said: “It was really a huge success. We had about 3,000 people so a huge amount in Lavenham, especially on Saturday when it was sunny and beautiful.”

“This certainly is the best one yet,” she added.
