Key route into Bury St Edmunds is now open following burst water main at Moreton Hall A14 interchange
A key route into Bury St Edmunds has reopened following weeks of closures.
Rougham Road had been closed underneath the A14 Moreton Hall interchange while Anglian Water was on site repairing a burst water main.
While one lane at the unerpass had been open at times, at others motorists found both lanes closed and were forced to follow a diversion along the A14 to Rougham, before returning back on the A14 to the Bury east interchange.
The works started on April 24 and were originally scheduled to finish on May 4. The works were extended, but the road is now fully open.
At times one lane of the underpass heading from the Sainsbury’s direction towards Bury town centre has been open.
At others, all traffic from the Moreton Hall side of town has been diverted along the A14 to junction 45 at Rougham, before having to return on the A14 to the Bury east interchange.
The works started on April 24 and were originally scheduled to finish on May 4, but this date has now been extended to May 10.
The emergency road closure was put in place after a burst water main saw water gushing at the interchange.
