Katie maintains weight loss goal and bags award after help from Mildenhall slimming world
A 46-year-old mum who shed five stone has been recognised with a national award.
Katie Clark won the national diamond award for losing a staggering 5st 2lbs at her slimming world club in Mildenhall, and maintaining that weight for nearly seven years.
It was when her daughter, Beau, was 18 months and at a park that she decided to make the drastic lifestyle change.
Katie, from Red Lodge, said: “Beau was too young to go down the slide alone. I climbed up with her and sat her on my knee, but when I went to push myself off, I realised we weren’t moving.
“I was wedged so tightly in the slide that I had to push us down to the bottom with my spare arm.
“I knew then something had to change.”
Katie will be presented with her diamond member of the year award, as well as a £2,000 cheque, next Saturday by Rylan Clark-Neal in a ceremony at Birmingham.
Accompanying Katie at the event will be Donna Cooper, Katie’s Slimming World consultant.
Donna said: “Katie has always been a little ray of sunshine in our group, so we’re all extremely proud of her.
“She’s living proof that despite life’s ups and downs, you can lose weight and keep it off – for life.”
Every Slimming World group holds a competition to recognise target weight members, but this is the first time someone from the Mildenhall group has won.
Members can continue to attend the Slimming World group for free to maintain their target weight.
She now weighs 10st 4lbs.
Katie, who is a hairdresser and lives with her partner Lee, said that she was planning on spending the prize money on a holiday to Turkey.
As well as changes in her diet, Katie said: “Another amazing thing I developed as a result of my weight loss this time around was a love of fitness.”
Katie now runs her own Hour of Power exercise class.
